Battery woe, tech win

After publishing my previous post I was so overwhelmed with the novelty of having an Internet connection on a plane that my laptop battery died before I could post up a couple of screen-shots which I took for some of my more technically inclined readers.¹

So, without further ado, here they are:

AirCell appears to be a previous alias of the company which offers the service, gogo.

Despite the huge latency and low bandwidth the service was perfectly usable for web and IM.

The service was wonderfully easy to use:
After being informed we could use electronic devices I powered up my laptop and discovered a single wireless network called gogoinflight. After connecting it has a captive portal (I just discovered that's the name for such a redirect technique) which offered connectivity for the flight alone or a monthly rate.

I was actually very surprised at the price. My biggest concern from the moment I saw the Wi-Fi ONBOARD stickers which adorned the overhead lockers in the cabin, was that I knew I was going to try it, whatever the cost; and the cost was probably going to be high.
But it was only $10.77 for the flight (including sales tax), which whilst high by paid wi-fi standards, isn't to bad for an emerging technology, in my humble opinion.

¹ I'm sorry that sentence was so horribly long and a little garden path, please feel free to suggest a re-wording!
