Growing up

I actually planned to write this Blog back on Sunday but didn't get the chance to, so here we are now:

Whilst tidying my room up a little at the weekend I happened upon my old Young Persons Railcard wallet, containing all my previous railcards. I abandoned this wallet with the latest incarnation (noticeably renamed to: "16-25 Railcard"), and evidently left it lying around.

So for aesthetic reasons I lined them all up:

Now as part of my no clutter policy I know I have to throw them away, that's just the rule.

But so as not to forget all the wonderful (and, lets be honest, some very sad¹) journeys those railcards afforded me I couldn't resist putting them up here.

Also we can see that my current, and final card expires 8th March 2011.
It is on this day that I will renounce the title of: "young person", and generally grow up.
Five days after my twenty seventh birthday, put it in your calendar:

Now I'm not entirely sure I know what growing up entails, some of my friends seem to be trying a variety of: Babies, houses, living together with their partners, and getting married.
You'll note that these all (in some sense) require one to be in a relationship, so to be honest I'm not getting my hopes up :)

Still it'll be a good excuse to have a little cry about getting older and the good old times being long gone!

Another event pertinent to growing up is (or rather, was) my beard.
I decided to partake in the, "don't shave while England are still in the World Cup" arrangement, primarily because I'd always wanted to test run a beard.

For future reference here is the difference, on the left is sixteen days of beard (it really felt like a lot longer, I'm surprised it was that little time), and on the right immediately after (a rather prolonged) shave:

I think we can all agree a beard is not for me :)
(And I will never again curse having to shave, damn that thing got itchy towards the end!)

Finally, I kissed a girl: Currently losing at 65%.

¹ The most tragic example of this thus far being a journey back to Leicester, from London, many years ago. Pete, and I, having just seen off Sarah and Ness to their travels were both somewhat in shock.
Interestingly Sarah is now back in the arms of Pete, and Ness is somewhere in China, I think we know who the nicer guy is :)

  1. That was a sad sad day on that train.

I got my final young person's rail card a few weeks back too. Really makes you realise how the time flies :(

  2. hah, that beard growing thing is freaky. I've decided to not shave for a while since coming back from Glastonbury as an experiment as well (never tried it before)... Awkward stubble stage is awkward!
